Questions about subway exits

How do I find a subway exit near my destination?

Choose your NYC subway station, select a landmark or search for a street address, and compare mapped street exits by straight-line distance to your destination. Open the exit map to check the street location before following station signs.

Can I choose the train line I am traveling on?

Yes. Select a colored train badge to group exit records associated with that line, other station sections, and unconfirmed associations. A line association does not verify a path from your platform.

Does ExitNYC work offline?

Bundled station search, named places, landmark selection, street labels, line associations, and distance ranking work without a connection once the app data is loaded. Saved offline address, street-corner and place search (OpenStreetMap) works without a connection after an optional one-time download; online address and place suggestions and external Google Maps links need internet access. On the website, visit once with a connection; after that the site and its exit data open offline from your device’s cache.

Are the distances walking distances?

No. Distances are straight-line measurements from the mapped street exit point to your destination. They do not include indoor corridors, stairs, crossings, or street routing. Miles are the default, and you can switch to kilometers.

Does an elevator exit mean my journey is accessible?

No. The elevator filter identifies mapped elevator points. It does not verify a step-free path to a platform or current elevator service. Check official MTA accessibility and outage information before traveling.
